LIVE: Golden Diskó Ship and Paula Reissig: POV:BirdMix

For years, pop music has followed the path of reduction and minimalism. And the tone of cutting-edge pop has steadily grown darker and more serious. Theresa Stroetges, aka Golden Diskó Ship, offers an alternative to this trend. Her music is rich, colorful, and full of melodies. Stroetges loves intricate vocal arrangements that soar to the highest pitches. While many others shy away from opulence and melodic complexity, she brings precisely these qualities to the forefront. The consistently positive mood of her driving, ultra-pop sound is incredibly infectious. At the same time, it serves as a coping strategy for the artist amid the multifaceted crisis of our present age.In her live sets, Golden Diskó Ship presents a bubbling mix of Krautrock, wide-screen club music, ’80s pop, and disco (sic!). Clever rhythms and polished arrangements are slipped into the audience’s experience with a smile. In rapid succession, the multi-instrumentalist switches between guitar, viola, percussion, and a whole host of electronic instruments. Top-notch entertainment for fans of unconventional and danceable pop music. With her live videos, media artist Paula Reissig expands the musical program to include interactive visuals. Reissig has developed a remix game based on GoldenDiskó Ship’s tracks that can be played for free in a web browser. Musical elements are assigned to visual objects, which the audience can remix without any prior musical knowledge. The artist and the audience swap roles, and a finished piece of music is collaboratively reimagined. At the concerts in October and December, Paula Reissig will present the remix game live during the concert and let the audience try it out in a workshop afterward.
