Jakob Gnigler (*1989) is a saxophonist and composer living in Vienna. In his music, various musical impressions flow into one another, especially from jazz, contemporary music and electronic music. This mixture sometimes results in small-structured sound collages, sometimes in long arches. In his constant search for new sounds and tonal arrangements on the saxophone, he has been able to develop a personal, unmistakable expression.
As a composer, he has recently been increasingly concerned with the tension between compositional guidelines and interpretation, as well as with the forms and sequences of musical processes. In the process, the nature of the instructions given to the performers has become a decisive point of reference. The question of who you write for has become just as important as what you write.
