Johannes Grenzfurthner (born June 13, 1975 in Vienna) is an Austrian artist, filmmaker, author, curator, performer, actor and lecturer. Grenzfurthner is the founder and artistic director of monochrom, an international art and theory group and film production company based in Q21 of Vienna’s Museumsquartier, and many of his artistic works are labeled as monochrom.
Grenzfurthner conducts research into subversive underground cultures and is an expert in the interplay between sexuality and technology. The Boing Boing magazine describes Grenzfurthner as Leitnerd, a combination of the German word Leitkultur and the English word Nerd, to characterize his position in the nerd/hacker/art scene.
