Anat Stainberg

Anat Stainberg has lived and worked in Vienna since 2007. Born in Tel Aviv, she began her career as an actress before moving to Amsterdam in 2004, where she completed a performance diploma at DasArts (now DAS Graduate School).

Her work has been presented internationally and has received numerous awards, including the City of Amsterdam Art Prize. Her works are included in the collection of the Austrian Theater Museum and the art collection of the City of Vienna.

With a strong foundation in the performing arts, her artistic approach is both reflexive and experimental, encompassing painting, installation, and performance. Stainberg’s work focuses on the margins between these disciplines, moving between her reductive, minimalist paintings and her “over- or under-acted” performances. With precise attention to detail, she explores the complex interplay of reality and fiction, shadow and light, in a constant search for the true form of things—a place where simplicity, depth, and presence unite.

In addition to realizing her painting and performance projects, Stainberg is part of the curatorial team for the monthly performance series Der Blöde Dritte Mittwoch (The Stupid Third Wednesday) and works as a performer with the experimental theater group Toxic Dreams.
