SUMMARY:Save the House - Call for Donations
DESCRIPTION:Crowdfunding \nMost of you will have noticed over the last few months that the clubhouse is in dire need of renovation and we have a lot of work to do. A lot of energy\, lifeblood and volunteer hours have gone into maintaining the building. Students from the design.build studio\, a course at the Vienna University of Technology under the direction of Peter Fattinger\, have been developing a new concept for the front part of the Vereinshaus since last year and will be implementing it between April and June.\nTwo new exhibition spaces will be created\, and in the following year we will devote ourselves to renovating the rear section. \nBut it also takes money and sponsorship to pay for our material costs. \n♥ We kindly ask for your support and donations \nCrowdfunding \nVerein Symposion Lindabrunn\nRaika Enzesfeld\nIBAN: AT07 3204 5000 0080 5317\nBIC: RLNWATWWBAD \n

SUMMARY:design.build Studio - New construction of the Clubhouse facade
DESCRIPTION:The Symposion Lindabrunn Clubhouse is a wooden barrack from the 1980s and has proven itself as a creative space over the decades. Despite its robustness and repairability\, the building is now badly affected by its age\, exposed location and the weather. Its structural condition now presents the association with considerable infrastructural and resource-related challenges. \nAt the same time\, however\, an architectural adaptation offers the opportunity not only to improve the usability of the building\, but also to expand the possibilities for events and artistic performances. \nA collaboration with design.build studio of the Vienna Technical University which has started in autumn 2024 provides pioneering solutions. \n \nhttps://www.design-build.at/ \nThis practice-oriented teaching format for architecture students makes it possible to work on real construction tasks in all their complexity. The students go through the entire process\, from the initial design idea to the actual construction\, working as a large team. They experience how design and craftsmanship go hand in hand – an approach that differs from the usual separation of disciplines in architectural practice. \nDirected by Professor Peter Fattinger\, the design.build studio has realized projects of international relevance for over two decades\, including temporary installations in public spaces and permanent educational and community buildings in Austria\, South Africa and Indonesia. Their work has been presented in renowned exhibitions worldwide\, for example at the Architecture Biennale in Venice\, the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt\, the Center for Architecture in New York City and the Architekturzentrum Wien. \nThe current annual project for 2024/25 is dedicated to the comprehensive adaptation of the Clubhouse at Symposion Lindabrunn. The plans include the renovation of the façades\, the redesign of the entrance area and forecourt as well as a protective canopy. The front area of the building is to be given a new quality as an interface to the public space\, with exhibition options and flexible solutions for events. \n \nThe conceptual phase began in October 2024 and a final design will be developed in a collaborative process by the end of the year\, which will be worked out in detail from January 2025. From the beginning of April to the end of June 2025\, the students will then work on the practical construction work on site. The construction process will be carried out in close collaboration with the carpenters from Kollektiv Riss\, who already successfully completed the refurbishment of the association’s exhibition space in 2022. \nThe cooperation between Symposion Lindabrunn and design.build studio creates sustainable added value. Instead of a mere refurbishment\, innovative and forward-looking concepts are being realized that unfold the potential of this unique location. Not only will the building be adapted\, but the connection between art\, architecture and public space will also be strengthened. \n

SUMMARY:Touching Time in the Memorial - Kunst ist Klasse
DESCRIPTION:Special Project within the framework of OEAD Funding Kunst ist Klasse \nTouching Time in the Memorial is a project of pluralistic remembrance. Young people work with artists from the Symposion Lindabrunn association to create and design a sculpture of many monuments to commemorate the concentration camp in Hirtenberg\, Lower Austria. Women from all over Europe were exploited here for the local munitions factory in the immediate vicinity of the symposium. Under the project management of Petra Mühlmann-Hatzl\, artist and VSL board member\, art mediator and educator at _dieARTE and at BG Neunkirchen\, pupils at MS Hirtenberg and VSL artists learn about the history of their region and develop individual and collective references in their own monuments. \nMany students have transnational references to history\, for some war is not a past but a present family reality. Workshops with artists who have dealt with intercultural perspectives of historiography and monuments as cultural and artistic settings in their work and in some cases also from their biographies\, create an awareness of design and symbolism based on the subcamp stele and the sculptures at the Lindabrunn Symposium. In June 2025\, Touching Time in the Memorial will be presented at the Lindabrunn Symposium. The sculpture of the many monuments will be exhibited in the Lindabrunn Symposium sculpture park over the summer and will subsequently be on display at the Hirtenberg secondary school. The project and process will also be documented and published by all participants on the Digital Holocaust Memorial platform. \nFunded by: \n \n

SUMMARY:Im CUBO: Claudia Rohrauer
DESCRIPTION:Analogue Fieldwork\nThe installation at CUBO provides an insight into an artistic and research-based exploration of the potential and possibilities of sustainable analog darkroom practice and plant-based developers as an alternative to conventional photographic chemicals. The central starting point is the property of plants to act as a developer substance through the phenols and polyphenols they contain and to be able to reduce silver salts to metallic silver. The resources\, materials and materiality of image production are up for debate.\nThe environment and surroundings in Lindabrunn become accomplices and co-producers of photographic image production; as an artist\, I hand over control of the processes to plants\, weather\, light\, temperature and\, last but not least\, to chance\, which may bring about chemical reactions between the light-sensitive photographic material such as film and paper and the plant phenols that cannot be calculated in advance. What is depicted and what is depicted grow together in the picture plane. Process documentation and final results meet on an equal level.\nArtist: Claudia Rohrauer\nwebsite: http://www.claudiarohrauer.info \n  \n

SUMMARY:Salon im Grünen - Opening CUBO\, Hörzelle
DESCRIPTION:Art in the open natural space – two new exhibition formats at Symposion Lindabrunn! \nFor the first time\, two new projects allow visitors to experience contemporary art in the open natural space at Symposion Lindabrunn alongside the stone sculptures. \nThey will be opened on 03.08. at 16:00. \nThe listening cell offers sound art with a view and was developed from a converted telephone booth. Here you can listen to four different radio plays and pieces of music that change throughout the year. \nThe Cubo is a new exhibition space in the grounds where young and established artists can show their work for most of the year. \nClaudia Rohrauer\, who has been conducting intensive research into the use of plant-based photo developers for years\, will kick things off. In her solo exhibition at Cubo\, the young artist will be showing large-format photos that were taken on site and developed using extracts from the plants. \nAnother premiere is the “Salon im Grünen” format immediately afterwards. \nThe focus is on the exchange with individual artists in a relaxed\, open space for discursive discussion\, exchange and in-depth insights. \nPerformance artist Sheri Avraham\, who spent two weeks working on the symposium\, will be a guest here. \nA varied afternoon of art\, intensive exchange and leisurely chatting and strolling in the natural area awaits visitors. \nThis project was made possible thanks to the support of \nArt in Public Space Lower Austria \nBMWKMS\, Cultural Initiatives Section \nTranslated with DeepL.com (free version)

SUMMARY:Im CUBO : Karin Frank
DESCRIPTION:The two wooden sculptures\, which focus on the physical work involved in stone carving\, were created during the “50 Years of Lindabrunn Symposium” in 2019 in the area where the Cubo now stands\, and are now being exhibited publicly for the first time in a long time.\nThe artist Karin Frank works almost exclusively in wood and paints her sculptures. They are mostly figurative\, realistic\, but never hyperrealistic. Frank is known for her ability to depict movement in static sculptures. The toy-like appearance of the sculptural works only appears to contradict their unvarnished content. Many of the more than 200 sculptures of all sizes created in this way can be found in private and public collections\, mainly in German-speaking countries. In 2005\, she received the State Scholarship for Fine Arts. \nTranslated with DeepL.com (free version) \nhttps://www.karinfrank.at/ \nKarin Frank\nFuturologisches Symposium\nBildhauer \n

SUMMARY:Symposion 20 Years of Buried Alive
DESCRIPTION:20 Jahre „Buried Alive“ – Anniversary of monochrom’s legendary Performance-Projekt\n\nTwenty years ago\, the art collective monochrom literally dug itself into the collective memory: for the performance “Buried Alive\,” it invited over 800 people worldwide to be buried alive since 2005 – a radical experiment between borderline experience\, ritual\, and media criticism.\n\nIn 2025\, the project will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Reason enough to put this spectacular\, much-discussed work back in the spotlight. \n“Buried Alive” is more than a test of courage. The performance addresses both the fascination with and fear of death\, as well as the need to reenact historical burial rituals. In a specially constructed safety coffin\, the audience is buried alive—voluntarily and individually. What appears to be a macabre thrill turns out to be an artistic investigation: Where does entertainment end and existential reflection begin? How are media images of danger and extreme sports transformed into art? \nWith “Buried Alive\,” the Viennese collective monochrom\, internationally known since the 1990s for its mixture of media art\, theory\, and subversion\, makes it clear that performance art does not only take place on stage\, but in the body\, in the mind\, and in social discourse. \n2025 is the year: 20 years of Buried Alive. We will celebrate this milestone birthday where the project has found a permanent home since 2013: at the Lindabrunn Symposium\, where monochrom operates a permanent installation—for all those who don’t want to wait until life takes them underground. \nOn September 20 and 21\, 2025\, the collective invites you to the “20 Years of Buried Alive Symposium”: two days full of lectures\, music\, re-performances\, and discourse burials. Expect critical theory\, eerie nostalgia\, and the opportunity to lie down for a trial run. \n“Buried Alive” was never just a macabre joke. It is an invitation to reflect on fear\, desire\, media hysteria\, and ritual—while listening to earth being shoveled over you. \nExhibition Buried Alive feat. Black Ferk Studio\nIn addition to an exhibition on Buried Alive\, there will be an exhibition by Matthias Mollner featuring current photographic works from his series on people affected by ME/CFS and complex chronic illnesses. The photos\, which will also be featured in the book Fighters in the Crash Zone to be published in the fall\, will be presented to the public for the first time at the Lindabrunn Symposium. \nBurning Ferk“ Ritual in Lindabrunn\nAs part of the celebrations\, there will be a ritual burning of messages to Judith Schoßböck in the “Burning Ferk” on Sunday\, September 21\, at 4 p.m.\, which were written at “Judy in the Sky” or sent in advance. Everyone is welcome\, and we would be delighted if you could join us for this special moment! Following the ritual\, the “Burning Ferk” will be set up outdoors at a location that is special to Judith Schoßböck. \nSchedule at Symposion Lindabrunn\, Steinbruchstraße 25\, 2551 Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn \nSaturday 20. SUMMARY:in the Cubo: Sheri Avraham
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition at Cubo: Sheri Avraham – 70 Faces of the Torah \nIn the age of social media\, we continuously inscribe ourselves through curated feeds\, stories and highlights. These digital traces become a contemporary sacred scroll\, a living archive through which we seek recognition\, belonging and knowledge. Our online selves\, both self-designed and externally imposed\, function as a modern ritual of interpretation and belief. Within this space of multiplicity\, contradiction and intersectionality\, identity unfolds as performance and negotiation. \nThis work is part of the larger project “Mizrachi Futurism” and is a continuation of research that began during Sheri’s production residency at Symposion Lindabrunn in 2025. \n“Mizrachi Futurism” is a speculative aesthetic rooted in the identity category of Mizrachim: Jews with familial ties to non-Western countries. Inspired by Afrofuturism\, it functions as a cultural-political practice that creates insurgent visions of the future based on Mizrachi histories\, diasporic knowledge\, hybridity and anti-colonial critique in art\, theory and performance. From a Mizrachi and queer perspective\, this project reflects on fragmented identity\, visibility and belonging. \n70 Faces of the Torah presents identity as infinitely interpretable. Referring to the midrashic phrase “The Torah has seventy faces”\, the work suggests that identity\, like sacred texts\, is never unambiguous or fixed\, but fluid\, multi-layered and open to infinite interpretation. \nWhat remains hidden and what is shown?

SUMMARY:Production stay Veronika Mayer + Elisabeth Wildling
DESCRIPTION:Artists:Veronika Mayer\, Elisabeth Wildling \nFrom the lingering \nPerception is an active\, formative process. It selects\, condenses and creates reality. A site-sensitive artistic practice unfolds from everyday life together – in observing\, listening and visualizing – that responds to the situation rather than depicting it. This attitude characterizes the week-long collaboration between two artists in residence and is based on presence\, repetition and lingering. \nMacro shots open our eyes to the imperceptible – to transitions and subtle shifts in light\, sound and materiality. Situationally used materials act as mediating filters that structure traces of light and shadow as well as tonal particles. \nThe resulting installation follows a relational understanding of sensory orientation: as an ongoing process of active awareness\, in which heterogeneous environments\, experience and artistic setting resonate and respond to one another.

SUMMARY:Salon im Grünen: Veronika Mayer\, Elisabeth Wildling

SUMMARY:Production stay Art University Linz
DESCRIPTION:The excursion of Chris Janka’s experimental sound laboratory at the Department of Experimental Design at the University of Art and Design Linz to the Symposion Lindabrunn focuses on sound experiments\, installations and improvisations. The curriculum for experimental art is an artistic laboratory for creative freedom. This freedom is often hard to find\, but the excursion framework to the VSL offers it and makes it possible to implement and develop new concepts.

SUMMARY:Salon im Grünen: Experimental Soundlab
DESCRIPTION:The excursion of Chris Janka’s experimental sound laboratory at the Department of Experimental Design at the University of Art and Design Linz to the Lindabrunn Symposium focuses on playful sound experiments\, installations\, and improvisations. The curriculum for experimental art is an artistic laboratory for creative freedom. This freedom is often difficult to find\, but the excursion framework at the VSL offers it and enables new concepts to be implemented and developed.
