SUMMARY:Literaturspaziergang '23
DESCRIPTION:Various events will be held in Lindabrunn over the course of 2023 to commemorate Mathias Hietz and his legacy. At the beginning of spring\, Kirstin Schwab\, Beatrice Simonsen\, Elke Steiner and Marion Steinfellner will open the series of events to mark the 100th birthday of the symposium founder. Readings and performances lead across the green meadow to the artworks of the Lindabrunn Symposium. The authors draw on the synergy between art and literature\, talk about the history of the site\, the founding of the symposium by Mathias Hietz in 1967\, fantasize about its future and present their own interpretations of the sculptural heritage. \nKirstin Schwab on the sculpture by Gero Müller-Goldegg (1969)\nTwo heads. Leaning against each other. For half a century. Leaning into time. Leaning into the landscape\, into life. Their point of contact? Their foreheads. Do their thoughts lean against each other? At the interface between the past and the present.\nErbe always poses the question of time\, poses questions to time. Opens up a before and postulates a changed after. Who is leaning against whom? Who stands in whose shadow? What does one head think\, what does the other? And how does our own head relate to this? \nBeatrice Simonsen on “Hain” by Mathias Hietz (1972)\nA performative appearance in the land art work “Hain” by Mathias Hietz from 1972 commemorates the founder of the Lindabrunn Symposium and his sculptural work. We are celebrating his legacy and his 100th birthday with a collective action. Mathias Hietz always focused on the community – we want to build on this. History and fantasy intertwine in various text levels between sober report and poetic interpretation of the sculptor’s life and work. \nElke Steiner on the sculpture “The Gate of the Wind” by Hiroshi Ohnari (1975)\n“The Gate of the Wind” is also the name for an acupuncture point. The point is located on the meridians of the water element\, where\, according to the teachings of traditional Chinese medicine\, our inherited energy is stored. The observations can be superimposed like foils\, man and terrain\, past and present\, point and sculpture. \nMarion Steinfellner\nIn a holistic poetry dance performance\, Marion Steinfellner combines her physicality and her poems with the energetic uniqueness of this special natural art space. Each moment transmorphs into itself\, flows into the next moment of being in the open and reveals surprising singularities. \nAn event organized by Kunst und Literatur with the Symposion Lindabrunn and the Grazer Autorinnen Autorenversammlung. \nBiographies of the authors: \nKirstin Schwab\, born in Graz in 1976\, lives as an author/artist in Jois. Studied acting. Numerous theater works at home and abroad. Writes poetry\, dramatic texts and children’s stories. Currently published: wir teilen unser Ungleichgewicht (poetry collection\, Löcker Verlag). In fall 2023 the first children’s book Fisch mit Regenschirm(Obelisk Verlag) will be published. The text was awarded the Dixi Children’s Literature Prize. www.kirstinschwab.at \nBeatrice Simonsen\, lives as an author and literary critic in Vienna. Conceives and organizes intermedia\, synergetic events under her own brand “Art and Literature” since 2013 (since 2022 “Art or Nature and Literature”). Since 2014 performative appearances and literary publications in anthologies\, art books and on the radio. Most recently published: Der Himmel bis zur Erde Erzählungen. edition lex liszt 12\, Oberwart 2022. \nElke Steiner\, born in 1969\, lives and works as an author\, writing teacher and literary mediator in Burgenland and Vienna. SUMMARY:Schulworkshop: Hain und ich\, 13.6. u. 20.6.
\n\nZweiter Termin: 20.6.

SUMMARY:School workshop: Hain and Me\, 13.6. u. 20.6.
DESCRIPTION:The LandArt work Hain\, started in 1972 and completed around 1979\, is the only remaining individual work by Mathias Hietz in the sculpture park. In addition to Hain\, key collaborative works such as the Communication Center (1973-1980)\, the Gate of Knowledge (1988) and the Wall (1979) bear Hietz’s artistic signature.\n \nIn the Hain and Me project\, pupils from Hirtenberg secondary school\, accompanied by artists from the Symposion Lindabrunn association\, explore the artistic and ecological characteristics of the site and Mathias Hietz’s artistic work. The stone sculptures are interpreted and explored on site\, own stories are invented – the experience is artistically processed. \nSecond date: 20.6.

\n\n\n\n  \n  \n

He would have been 100 years old in 2023. For 30 years\, from 1967 to 1996\, he lived the vision of a creative dialog in nature with artists from all over the world and made the Symposion Lindabrunn what it is today – a place where art and nature are taken seriously and shaped together. At the end of August\, language artist Natalie Deewan\, installation artist Eva Seiler\, illustrator and media artist Maria Morschitzky and stone sculptor Alexander Till will respond to this legacy in the exhibition Hybris Stein. In the tradition of Mathias Hietz\, their works are created on site.\nIn Lindabrunn at the end of the 1960s\, the creative power and creative will of artists from all continents met the hospitality and enthusiasm of the local stone companies and the community. Artists and Lindabrunn residents remember this time in many colors. On Saturday afternoon\, the story will be told. During a coffee colloquium\, there will be history and stories from the sculptors Gabriele Berger and Peter Paszkiewicz as well as from Christian Reindl\, who was actively involved in many works of art as a stonemason and as an employee of the former quarry. The exhibition also shows how stone became art here.\nWorking with stone is literally anything but easy\, it requires heavy equipment\, knowledge and space. Everything was there in Lindabrunn. The works in the sculpture park show this clearly. You can now find out more about the more than 100 works at any time in the mobile art education app Symposion Lindabrunn DIGITAL. If you wish\, you can also take a themed tour of the site. As part of the Grundsteine Symposium\, art historian Sandra Eichinger accompanies these tours. She has combed through art archives for Symposion Lindabrunn DIGITAL and spoken to many artists from back then.\nIn the 1970s\, sculptors created the communication center in a disused quarry as an event venue\, which to this day serves as an “arena” for performances of all kinds\, celebrations of many clubs and even weddings. In keeping with this diversity\, contemporary composers Jakob Gnigler and Karo Preuschl create the Schall und Raum music program together with the brass band. After all\, celebrations have always been part of the symposium. Celebrations are a great occasion for discussions and discoveries. With this in mind\, the Symposion Lindabrunn association is hosting a celebration for Mathias Hietz on Saturday evening – with a special dinner speech by the painter Christian Kvasnicka. \n\n\n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:PERFORMING UTOPIA – An AI-Opera
DESCRIPTION:Live performance on May 24th and May 25th at 7pm \n\n\n\nA project by alien productions (Martin Breindl\, Norbert Math und Andrea Sodomka) presented by Viertelfestival 2024 \n\n\n\nThe utopian genre is difficult. It seems as if the future has lost everything worth striving for; it has become a place of diffuse fears. What we need are better utopias.  And this is where Performing Utopia utilises precisely the technology that\, depending on your point of view\, either enhances or threatens human intelligence: artificial intelligence. \n\n\n\nFor the opera\, artificial intelligences were trained on historical utopian texts. During the performance\, human and artificial voices interact and both perform the resulting machine-generated texts. The music and stage design were also composed with the help of neural networks and interpreted by musicians and artists. And so Performing Utopia is indeed a co-operation between human and artificial perspectives. In the sense of a post-humanist ecology in which only intelligent networks remain viable – regardless of whether humans are involved or not.

SUMMARY:The BABEL Experiment – Maurizio Nardo and Peter Brandlmayr
DESCRIPTION:During their residency\, Maurizio Nardo and Peter Brandlmayr will explore a fundamentally existent\, measuring and relative concept of language in theory and practice. The setting seems suitable to them\, as at the symposium humans coexist physically and mentally with animate and inanimate nature. The artists’ focus is on the threshold zones between the participants\, i.e. on impression and impression. \n\n\n\nBased on their experiences\, they would like to develop an experimental arrangement or an instrumental setting with which the relative discretion of fundamentally existing communication can become apparent\, in the form of an experiment including a theoretical introduction.

SUMMARY:The pillars and me - art education for school classes
DESCRIPTION:June 11th and 25th \n\n\n\nThe work The Pillars was created in 1978 by Tomou Kobori\, Mathias Hietz\, Franz Katzgraber and Jun Ohara. Nine simple\, cylindrical stone forms of varying heights stand to the right of the gravel road leading to the central communication center. The work requires participation on the part of the viewer\, as it consists of two elements: the supporting columns and an (invisible) weight-bearing form. Kobori\, who had the idea for this work\, imagined a castle in the air. To get to the bottom of this castle in the air\, you have to choose the right viewpoint. Only from this point of view are the pillars of the same height and together they can support the castle in the air. \n\n\n\nIn cooperation with local primary school classes\, workshops will be held for children in June\, where they can get to know the Lindabrunn Symposium and its sculptures through an active\, participatory artistic experience and create their own works.
